Prague Panthers 23 - Prague Lions 14 (14:0, 2:0, 7:8, 0:6)

Prague Panthers have won their 8th national championship title (5th in a row) by beating their cross town rivals and favorites for this game Prague Lions 23 – 14.

Prague Lions entered this game as only unbeaten team in Czech League this season – they were also only team in CLAF this season that was able to beat Prague Panthers (14-12 in week 2). However, Panthers entered the game with best offense (37 pts per game) and defense (4 allowed points per game).

Prague Panthers started their attack early on their first drive when QB Dan Benes connected 80 yard pass to WR Jan Vrba. Kick was good, Panthers were up 7-0.

A few minutes later QB Benes connected with Vrba again, this time on 45 yard pass.

Second quarter brought smash mouth football when both teams were changing possessions quickly but it was Panthers offense and defense that started to dominate the game. Panthers kicker Jindrich Sild (who established new CLAF record with 55 yard field goal vs. Brno Alligators in semifinals) missed 2 field goals (51 and 30 yards). Only score in second quarter was a bad snap on Lions punt which resulted in safety.

Second half was opened by 90 yards kick off return for a TD by Lions Jensik. Lions QB Libor Navratil than ran for 2 point conversion to tighten the score at 16:8 for Panthers.

Panthers responded with series of runs which was crowned by 8 yard TD run by Panthers TB Pavel Hruzik. Kick was good and Panthers were up 23:8.

In 3rd quarter also Lions offense got their biggest chance of the game. 30 pass was caught by Lions WR Jensik who was brought down at Panthers 3 yard line. But great Panthers defense stopped Lions on all their 4 tries.

4th quarter was dominated by Panthers on both sides of the ball. Only Td however was scored by Lions defense when Panthers QB Dan Benes fumbled the snap at Panthers 30 yard line. Fumble was picked up by Lions LB Sefl and ran back for TD. Lions tried to score more points by series of passes but Panthers defense did not allow any big plays while Panthers offense controlled the clock with series of runs.

The key in this game proved to be both Panthers dominating offense and strong defense that did not allow Lions offense to score a single point in the game. However, both teams showed hard, fast and entertaining football that was a clearly highlight of the 10th season of Czech League of American Football.
