Finnish Maple League in semifinal stage
Seinšjoki Crocodiles took the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record.
It marks the first time in history that the Crocodiles have finished first
and the semifinal game next Saturday will be the first ever semifinal game
at Seinšjoki. Crocodiles and Turku Trojans met twice during the regular
season and both times the Crocodiles defeated the Trojans. In June the
Crocodiles demolished Trojans 48-0 and in mid August defeated Trojans
again 6-28. Crocodiles are clearly the favorites on this one, but you can
never count the Trojans out. Crocodiles dominated the regular season with
strong defense and steady running game while Trojans have relied on their
QB Chris Dapolito – WR Jamal Allen combo. Can the Trojans pull an upset on
this one or will Crocodiles continue on course to Maple Bowl will be seen
Porvoo Butchers will also host its first ever semifinal home game.
Butchers defeated Roosters in June 17-37, but in mid August Roosters
bounced back with a 14-17 win. Butchers QB Petrus Penkki has commanded the
offense to high scoring while passing to talented core of receivers lead
by Willie Kingand handing off to leagues premier runners Nathan Connor.
Roosters on the other hand have had an up and down season. The team even
lost to 7th place Lappeenranta Rajaritarit, before being able to put it
together near the end to gather enough points for play-off birth and then
taking 3rd place with a win over Trojans. No matter what happens on
Saturday, one would expect that both teams need to be ready for this one.
Though the Butchers have the upper hand, they need to play smart and
execute well to send the Roosters to the bronze game.
Finnish Championship final, Maple Bowl XXVI, will be played on Saturday
9th of September at 6pm at Finnair Stadium, Helsinki. Tickets for the game
