07.04.2008 Coventry Cassidy Jets
Jets move to Warwick University.
The late withdrawal has shades of last seasons European tie with the Madrid Bears, on that occasion the Jets were forced to scramble for a new venue when the Ricoh Arena pulled the plug on them in favour of Rugby Union’s Heineken Cup semi-final between Wasps and Northampton.
On that occasion Nuneaton Boro’ stepped in to save the Cassidy Jets offering to host at their old ground Manor Park. Now, with that stadium reduced to rubble, the Boro’ ground share with Nuneaton Rugby Club and it’s their home tie in the semi-final of the National Cup that has disrupted the Jets Euro ambitions.
Cassidy Jets Secretary Adam Etheridge commented that ‘this situation seemed unlikely when the booking was made, Nuneaton hadn’t had a home fixture in 3 years. I’m delighted for them to have progressed this far into the Cup and wish them luck’. Meanwhile, the Jets search for a replacement stadium to host the tie has come up short and they will now play in the cosy surroundings of Warwick University.
Head Coach Gerry McManus remained philosophical about the switch ‘the University offers great facilities for the players and the pitch is amongst the best we’ve played on. We’re comfortable up there as it’s also our training venue’. The game will be played on Saturday the 12th of April, entrance is just £3 for adults and £1 for under 16’s. Car parking is free and is available in car parks 12 and 13 just off Kirby Corner Road.
